More info... NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - The finance sector raised $63.3 billion in the equity markets in the third quarter of 2008 as firms rushed to strengthen their balance sheets amid a liquidity and credit crisis that claimed some the preeminent names in the industry.

Finance Japan Finance Corp. formed in overhaul of public lending (The Japan Times) Japan Finance Corp. was inaugurated Wednesday through the integration of four public lenders, marking a drastic overhaul of the public finance sector. The government-backed entity will not deal with financing currently offered by commercial financial institutions. Instead it will focus on lending to firms whose salvation meets the public interest.
